The Witcher 3 remastered is coming out . Is it a free upgrade .. and does it come with all the expansions for free even for people who just own the base game
Assistant response
Yes. CD Projekt Red made this unusually generous.
If you only own the base version of The Witcher 3, you now get:
-
Hearts of Stone → free
-
Blood and Wine → free
-
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered → free upgrade when it releases September 29, 2026, provided you're on a qualifying/current-gen platform. [Image omitted from import]CD PROJEKT+1
CDPR explicitly says that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now effectively part of the base game. If you already own the base game digitally, updating it should install/unlock them. On PS4 and Xbox One, the two expansions are also being made available free, although those older consoles do not get the Remastered upgrade itself. So, for example, if you bought the cheapest vanilla Witcher 3 years ago and never bought any DLC:
Before
Witcher 3 base game only
Now
Witcher 3
Hearts of Stone
Blood and Wine
September 29
Witcher 3 Remastered
Hearts of Stone
Blood and Wine
= $0 additional cost
And Remastered isn't merely higher resolution. CDPR lists upgraded textures, lighting and ray tracing, improved foliage, combat changes, traversal/movement changes, Roach handling, monster behavior, skill-tree changes, transmogrification, expanded photo mode, new finishers and more. One important exception
The newly announced third expansion, Songs of the Past, coming in 2027, is paid DLC. It is not included free with the base game or the Remastered upgrade. [Image omitted from import]CD PROJEKT
So when CDPR says the expansions are free, they're referring to the two classic expansions:
✅ Hearts of Stone
✅ Blood and Wine
❌ Songs of the Past, paid in 2027
Pretty wild deal considering Blood and Wine alone is basically the size of a smaller standalone RPG.
